Alright, all cubers please listen up.
Cubetube is and will always be a place for the free sharing of your viz creations; with that in mind, there are a few ground rules (so far unspoken; however, this has changed now) that need to be observed at all times by those who intend to share their code publicly. Those are common sense-based, and should never hinder any work from being posted for other users to enjoy. However, throughout cubetube's lifetime (roughly over a year now) we've been seeing a few posted vizes (really, just a few, which means most vizes range from cool to awesome) that are not quite up to standard -- and by that we do mean that it is code that can potentially cause harm and inadvertently render a cube unusable for some time (until users can fix it with Cube Doctor).
Mostly these programs have not been thoroughly tested (attention programmers: debugging is KEY!) to the point they can be considered safe to make public. So despite enough warnings that have been placed throughout the deployment process (e.g., clicking the "Public" button on edit mode will trigger a warning pop-up to show up), some users apparently haven't understood the meaning of that warning, hence the existance of a few public vizes that are considered "bad" due to them being potentially harmful or just not working at all -- and because we never hinder any of our cubers' creations, these can still be flashed from the gallery.
So from now on we will adopt a slightly stronger policy, and that is with the goal of helping keep Cubetube always a safe place for all users, regardless of skill level. We want to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy a pleasant experience at all times. To that end, we're creating this topic, which will bear a list of identified vizes that have been confirmed to be bad and need fixing by their respective authors. So the rules are simple:
IDENTIFY (Viz is bad): If a viz doesn't do anything, or worse, it somehow "breaks" your cube (e.g.: photon LED starts flashing red, or becomes yellow/white/flashing blue) then it is a confirmed bad viz. Rule of thumb, if after flashing a viz from the gallery, you are no longer able to flash it again and need to use Cube Doctor or refer to one or more of our various troubleshooting posts here in the forum in order to get your cube back in good order, then it's a confirmed bad viz.
REPORT: Here's where this topic comes into play; write a reply that contains at least the following:
1) A URL pointing to the "offending" viz, such as the link in the top of your browser when you clicked that viz, or its own Twitter sharing link. Either of those will do fine.
2) What it caused to your cube: Be as detailed as you can be. Write down exactly what happened right after your photon LED stopped flashing purple and as your photon started to reboot and tried reconnecting to your home Wifi. Did it go back to breathing cyan? Yes, then it's something else? Write it down in detail; this will help us to identify what possibly can be done in your cube in order to restore it to working order.
Multiple reports are accepted, provided they contain extra information that has not been addressed in the original post. If they do not add anything of value to the original post, then they will be ignored. After a report has been placed here, we'll look into that viz and confirm whether or not it's really causing the problem(s) reported.
Once a viz has been checked and confirmed bad, the author will have a grace period of 7 days from the date of the first report, to either fix his/her code or just make that viz private (doing so prevents other users from flashing it, as the viz is only visible by its author). After that grace period has ended, if the viz is still unchanged, then we will make it private (oh yes, we can do that) and notify the author of such measure via e-mail.
Again, we do not have any intent to shy away potentially great viz programmers, but we still keep in mind that being a public place, Cubetube needs to be a safe place. So we want to make sure all users are aware of that. So that only good content is available through our gallery.
